Man Reports Being Awakened At Gunpoint

A local man reported to law enforcement officers Saturday that he had been awakened by an armed burglar who stole a ring and hundreds of dollars in cash from him.

The thirty-four year old victim reported the incident to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Saturday afternoon. He said that he had been asleep at a friend’s house on Buffalo Road around 3:30 a.m. when he awakened to find a man, armed with a chrome revolver, standing in front of him.

The victim told officers that the intruder demanded to know the whereabouts of his friend. He said he told the man he did not know where he was, then went back to sleep.

Later, when he awoke again he said he discovered that his girlfriend’s diamond engagement ring was missing from his hand and $700 in cash had been stolen from his wallet. He was able to provide officers with the name of a suspect in the case. He said his loss totaled $1,300.

Shortly afterwards the friend at whose home the first victim had stayed contacted police officers to file a second complaint.

He reported that he had been visiting a friend at a home on Hayes Road during the same time period and had parked his 1998 Ford F150 truck in the driveway. He said that the doors were left unlocked and the keys in the ignition.

The second victim said that he had seen the same suspect prowling about his truck and that he got inside and drove away. He estimated the value of his truck to be $5,000.

Investigation into both complaints is currently on-going.
